Advance Tax Calculator

If you have income beyond salary — freelance or business income, capital gains, rent, interest — tax usually isn't fully deducted at source. This works out your quarterly advance tax installments, so you're not staring at a surprise bill (and interest under 234B/234C) in March.

This is an estimate based on your projected income for the year. Advance tax is paid on income you expect to earn, so if your actual income comes in higher or lower than what you enter here, your real liability shifts too — that's exactly what triggers interest under Sections 234B (shortfall) and 234C (deferment). Recompute each quarter with your latest actuals rather than setting-and-forgetting this once. This covers individual advance tax under Sections 208/211, not corporate advance tax rules, and treats the income you enter as your net taxable estimate for the year (after any deductions you plan to claim) — it doesn't recompute 80C/80D/HRA for you. Verify with a chartered accountant before paying.

Salary (if any) + freelance/business income + other income (capital gains, rent, interest) — your net taxable estimate for the year, after any deductions you plan to claim.

₹

TDS clients deduct under Section 194J, or TDS on any salary portion — anything already collected against your final tax bill this year.

Same slab, rebate, marginal relief and cess logic as the regime comparator.

Presumptive taxpayers pay in a single installment — 100% by 15 March — instead of the standard four-part schedule below. The ₹10,000 threshold still applies either way.

SCHEDULE

Employee PF is not involved here — this is Section 208/211 advance tax for individuals with non-TDS'd income. Standard cumulative schedule for non-presumptive taxpayers: 15% by 15 June, 45% by 15 September, 75% by 15 December, 100% by 15 March.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I underpay or pay late?

Section 234B charges 1% per month on any shortfall if you've paid less than 90% of your total tax liability by 31 March. Section 234C charges 1% per month on each installment you underpaid relative to the cumulative schedule, even if you make up the difference later — which is exactly why revising your estimate each quarter, rather than guessing once in June, keeps this from compounding.

Does the ₹10,000 threshold still apply if I'm under presumptive taxation (44AD/44ADA)?

Yes — the Section 208 threshold applies to every assessee. Presumptive taxpayers only get relief on the number of installments (one instead of four), not on whether advance tax is owed at all. If your net tax after TDS is ₹10,000 or below, no advance tax is due either way.

Why can't I enter income above ₹50,00,000?

Above ₹50 lakh, a surcharge applies on top of the slab tax in both regimes, with different rules and caps by regime. This calculator doesn't model that, so it deliberately stops rather than show you an understated number — the same scope limit used by the regime comparator and TDS calculator on this site.
